We have reported on the
1001 Bugatti Veyron in the past as loyal readers remember. In Frankfurt, the VW empire (which owns Bugatti as all loyal readers remember) brought in the Veyron with a new colour scheme and trust us this fact
alone is enough for qualifying to become a worthy FantasyCars.com news article! The photos of the red/black colour scheme are amazing but when you stop admiring them you may be
interested in learning what new details we got about the Veyron as it is nearing its production date (sometime in 2003!):
The engine is still the rather impressive 8.0lt quad-turbo W16 unit and it's still producing only 1001hp (come on Bugatti do something more just kidding just kidding!)
which is of course more than enough to give the car the title of the most powerful production car ever. How much torque I hear you asking? Well that has now been revealed and it is an amazing 922lb.ft available all the
way from 2200 to 5500 rpm (wow that reminds me of the 1.8T Volkswagen/Audi engine and its impressive torque curve I guess this is a bit more powerful though!).
The gearbox has "something" to say as well: It's a 7-speed sequential with
two clutches (haven't heard of this before
). One clutch is used for 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th
gear while the other one is used for 2nd, 4th and 6th. As one clutch is always engaged and the other is always open, the system opens the driving
clutch as it closes the "new" one that will engage the next gear. The result? You don't feel a loss of power at all despite the gearchange taking 0.2 seconds to complete!
The performance figures sound at least scary! Accelerating to 186mph will only take 14 seconds! Top speed will reach (under certain conditions like the use of the right tyres) 252 mph (yes that's more than
400km/h!).
What more can we say? Nothing really!
Got something more to say?
