The Ferrari F60 is Coming! - Part II by Alex Michalas The Ferrari F60 (Ferrari's successor to the legendary F40 and
F50) has to be the most eagerly anticipated
FantasyCar ever! It was last August that we first reported that the F60 had left the drawing board and hit the track (look at
The Ferrari F60 is Coming - Part I). We are now presenting you with the first spy pictures of the F60. The
forthcoming supercar was seen testing in Ferrari's private track and, although it was quite heavily disguised and not appropriate for an
overall judgement of the car's looks, the basic design directions can be clearly identified from the 3 photos shown here. Looking at the photos and comparing them with the F50, we can say that the F60 resembles its predecessor a lot and keeps the F50's basic proportions and size. Still, the side air
intakes are definitely bigger in the F60 and, looking from the side, we can see that the F60's front wheels are significantly smaller than the rear ones. Also, the F60's front overhang is bigger, perhaps in an effort to
reduce the car's wheelbase and make it more nimble.
As we have already reported, the car will be powered by a 6.0 litre V12 unit producing up to 650 hp.
The V12 will be mated to the rear wheels by a sequential gearbox and insiders suggest performance figures of 3 seconds flat for the sprint to 60 mph and a top speed of 230 mph. Production dates are not confirmed yet but we think that, given the stage of development the car has
already reached, it should be sooner rather than later (read something like late 2002/early 2003?).Here we are then - one step closer to the car that will carry on the heritage of the cars that defined the
supercar of the 80s (F40) and the 90s (F50) and take it into the 00s! Stay tuned for The Ferrari F60 is Coming - Part III to appear soon on your favorite website! And, of course, visit the FantasyCars.com
